Merit and Commemorative Medal of the “Academic Battalion” of Coimbra, 1808

Breast Badge, 49x35 mm., gilt Silver, oval decoration, the obverse engraved at Portugal’s Arms on a trophy of arms and banners, around, the motto “PRO REGE PRO PATRIA PRO FIDE” and above, “AUDEO”, smooth reverse; enclosed within a thick, twisted gilt silver wire, fitted with loop and suspension ring, with original, red ribbon.
A very rare variation of this famous medal from the Napoleonic, Peninsular wars, excellent condition and attractive patina. I RR!
