Breast Badge, 30 mm., GOLD, the obverse with the Ottoman Crescent and star, within stylized ornaments, the reverse with the bust of a lady wearing rich robes and jewels facing left, within ornaments similar to the obverse, originally pierced to the upper border, golden link ring and round suspension ring, with green bordered, crimson, silk bow-ribbon as used for the early, Ottoman merit insignia, with reverse, fastening hook.
A beautiful, rare, early medal, most probably connected to the history of Albania and its relationship with the Ottoman Empire, excellent condition, worth of further research. I R!
Note: according to Metın Erüreten in “Osmanlı Madalyarı ve Nişanları”, Istanbul, 2001, page 372, the medal, although reported in an early numismatic book, has not been identified yet, besides the hypothesis that the medal was created by the Albanian leader Ali Pasha of Tepeleni, also known as “The Lion of Tepeleni” (1750-1822), in the honour of his lover, the Christian lady Kyra Vassiliki.
