Polychrome rectangular icon of Byzantine expression about the archangels Gabriel and probably Raphael in the upper part, Emperor Constantine and Helena his mother below, holding the Latin cross discovered by the Empress, the four grouped around an architectural reliquary a character within, scene of the Annunciation to Mary (according to Byzantine tradition, the Virgin appears standing in an architectural setting). It is likely that the virgin represented here is a black virgin. Beautiful realization of quality, dimensions 38 x 27,5 cm. Very old work before the 18th century, probably from Greece : it should be noted a structure mounted in two superimposed wooden panels, the painting re-attached late on a solid support. The reunion of these five characters on an icon is unusual, and seems unprecedented. Lacks and damage visible on the picture.
