MINIATURE PORTRAIT OF GIUSEPPINA GRASSINI IN THE ROLE OF “ZAIRA”

Painted after the famous, larger portrait of the famous Italian singer, by E. Viget Lebrun (where the velvet robe is red); 180x99 mm., the cardboard fixed to the reverse, bears an old, handwritten label with “Zaira 1805” (the date when Grassini was on stage in London to sing in von Winter’s opera, when probably she met the Duke of Wellington for the first time, in its original, fire-gilt, rococo frame with suspension ring to the upper reverse.
A beautiful portrait, done by a finest hand, possibly the same Viget Lebrun herself, excellent condition.
