Grand Cross Breast Star, 73x64 mm., gilt Silver, white enameled, 8-pointed star, flanked by polished, gilt beams enriched by white enameled stars, gilt centre medallion with monogram, sky-blue enameled outer circlet bear- ing the motto “PADROEIRA DO REINO” in golden lettering and chiseled border, bulbous, beautifully made upper crown, with enameled details, concave, polished reverse, with convex counter-medallion and the numerous rivets retaining the obverse’s details, vertical, double pin; in the original, fitted case of issue and with the original award document, to a Portuguese politician on duty in the Overseas Territories, 1850.
An attractively made star, in the typical, excellent, Portuguese manufacture from the 19th Century. I R!
