GREAT BRITAIN

An early, embroidered Breast Star, attributed to Queen Anne.
Silver wire of different types, 119x115 mm., the centre with red silk cross within silver embroidery, within the thick outer circlet made as a tied garter with the Order’s motto “HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE” on now greenish-blue silk ground, the reverse, backed with paper, bearing a sepia inscription “The star worn by Queen Anne”, a further paper also inscribed with sepia ink and a glued clip-off (from an ancient auction catalogue?) “52 Queen Anne’s star of the Garter”.
A very fine and very early star, with an interesting provenance; extremely fine condition, compared to its age and nicely toned. II RR!
