BRAZIL

An especially-made, probably unique set of Grand Officer of the Order, after the “French fashion”. Breast Badge, 44x35 mm., GOLD, as a white enameled, six-pointed star with grooved border and ball-finials, flanked by beautifully enameled wreath of pink roses with green enameled leaves, obverse centre medallion in gold with embossed, combined monogram of the Emperor and the Empress on beaming ground, within night-blue enameled outer circlet bearing the motto “AMOR E FIDELIDADE” and a stylized knot above, reverse centre medallion embossed with the date of the order’s creation “2 / 18-29 / 8” on beaming background, within night-blue enameled outer circlet bearing the inscription “PEDRO E AMELIA” and a stylized knot, sphaerical, polished upper loop and large, round suspension ring; with original silk ribbon with rosette. Breast Star, 59 mm., gilt Silver, made of grooved and polished beams on which rests the centre in gold and enamels, similar to the badge’s obverse, except for being it larger, for the centre monogram, here beautifully chiseled and the outer circlet, white enameled, instead of night-blue; concave, polished reverse fitted with pin and bearing the maker’s escutcheon of Chobillon, Paris; the whole in the original, black morocco case of issue, with gold embossed, Brazil’s Imperial coat of arms on the lid; fitted inner compartment and ivory silk, inner cushion.
A magnificent set in the finest manufacture, belonged to a diplomat from the early French 2nd Empire, excellent condition. I RR!
