ORDER OF HOMAYOUN (SUN AND LION)

First Model Second Class Star. Breast Star of the Order, 66 mm, Silver, with chiselled and pierced rays, flanked by smooth, golden rays, centre medallion with beautiful enamel miniature depicting the couching lion and the sun beneath, within a thin, gold border.
A very interesting and highly rare piece of Iranian manufacture, dating from the foundation of the order, extremely fine condition. I RR!
The Order was founded by Fat’h Ali Shah Qadjar in 1808 to reward foreign personalities, both civil and military, had an interesting and complex evolution, always remaining as a prominent decoration until the end of the Iranian/Persian monarchy in 1979.
