2nd Class Set. Neck Badge, 56,5 x 51 mm. GOLD, with matted arms, flanked by swords, green enameled centre medallion with Arab, calligraphic inscription, within outer circlet decorated with pearls, upper loop as a stylized acanthus leaf, link ring and grooved suspension ring; with long, original ribbon. Breast Star, 74 mm., GOLD and Silver, with chiseled rays, in the form of the Commander’s star of the British Order of the Bath (Mil.), from which this award was inspired, centre similar to the Order’s cross, polished reverse with tapering pin.
An extremely rare set of Afghan manufacture, excellent condition. I RR!
Note: the Order was instituted by Shah Shuya in 1839 and divided into
three classes, the 1st, or Grand Cross; the 2nd, or Knight Commander and the 3rd, Companion, directly inspired by the British Order of the Bath and awarded to meritorious officers of the Bengal Army. The Order ceased in 1842.
