An embroidered, mantle Star to a Commander of the Military Division, 165 mm, the arms, with sequined embroidery, polychrome embroidered centre with details in gold wires and thick, deep red velvet, the reverse backed with thin paper (minor loss and tears), the centre with circular maker`s label of "Lewis Gold Laceman, Embroiderer, Sword Cutler &c. to their Highnesses the Dukes of Kent & Sussex & the Prince of Hesse Homberg, 37. St. James Str.". An imposing, early, beautiful piece, in the finest quality, very fine condition and patina.The Order of the Bath, founded in 1725 by the King George I, derives its curious name in the homage to the ancient ceremony for creating a Knight which involved a symbolic bath as a sign of personal and spiritual purification. It rewarded any kind of merit, civil and military towards the Crown, in 1815, it was divided into two distinguished Divisions, Civil and Military. II R!
