Breast Badge, 39,0 x 26,0 mm., GOLD, Green enamel Officer’s Cross in Gold with curved arms and ends; centre medallion with fine miniature painting representing the pillars of Hercules and a cliff; gold-bordered, white enameled reverse centre medallion, bearing the inscription “3.ro EX.TO” painted in black; green enameled, upper laurel wreath with round, gold ring.
A beautiful example of this rare cross, instituted on March 31st, 1815, by King Ferdinand VII, for the troops under the Duke of Albuquerque, for distinguished merits on the Isla de Leon and in the defense of Cadiz, where the attacks of the French were withstood from 1810 to 1812; excellent condition.
